Salmon Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is an alliance of community partners formed to reduce and prevent substance abuse in Lemhi County. Community leaders, businesses, parents, youth, law enforcement, schools, media, youth-serving organizations, religious, civic and volunteer groups, healthcare professionals and other organizations involved in reducing substance abuse, are standing together to promote and preserve a drug-free environment. SSAPCO maintains that a drug-free environment is essential for the healthy development of our youth, allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential.
SSAPCO's current focus is to decrease the use of alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and prescription drugs among our youth and community members through education, empowerment and healthy alternatives. The ultimate goal of the coalition is to become a change agent in the lives of Lemhi County citizens to bring about healthier beliefs, perceptions, knowledge and behavior regarding substance abuse.
"Lemhi County, a vibrant, healthy community free of substance abuse" is the vision of SSAPCO. The coalition strives to realize this vision through community partnerships that collaboratively assess community needs to effectively plan, implement and evaluate strategies that reduce substance abuse in our community.
SSAPCO was awarded the Strategic Planning Framework grant in 2014 and later the Drug Free Communities grant in 2018, enabling the coalition to mature as an organization, expand its membership, initiate valuable programs and strategies and create partnerships for sustainability.
